Copilot in Power Apps

Intro Copilot in Power Apps

Power Apps enables you to easily create custom apps, without requiring in-depth knowledge of programming languages. You can use this platform to build your own apps.

Copilot is an AI assistant created by Microsoft that helps us generate different kinds of content. It is present in most Microsoft tools and also in Power Apps.

Let’s build an app using Copilot in Power Apps, shall we?

Steps

Open the Power Apps maker, at http://make.powerapps.com

In the Power Apps Home menu, in the centre of the screen, there is a prompt rectangle in which you can write a description of the app you want to create.

If you don’t know what to write, right above the prompt rectangle you can see different suggestions. You can choose these:

  • Collect RSVPs
  • Track sales leads
  • List inventory
  • Manage inspections

Let´s try one of them, for example, Track sales leads.

Click on the Track sales leads button, then click on the “>” symbol inside the prompt rectangle. The next screen will look like this:

In the middle of the screen, we see a preview of the table that will be used to create the app. There are different columns for people like lead source, and other values. Some of them will contain option values you can choose from. Use the column properties editor to change these values if you need to.

You can ask copilot to make changes to the table using natural language. Use the suggestions panel on the left to get inspiration and ideas about what to ask the copilot prompt on the right. You can write for example example: Change the name of the first column and add the word number.

But let’s keep it simple on this example, and continue without any changes by clicking on the Create app button.

The screen will change to the one below, while the app is being created.

Finally, you will see the result: a ready-to-use app created by Copilot:

Check the information, add more Lead results, share the app with colleagues, and more.

Save the app by clicking on the icon or CTRL +S.

Another Idea

Go again to the Home menu in the Power Apps maker.

Let’s write some text in the prompt rectangle area to ask Copilot to create an app to control the expenses in our company.

“Hello, I need an app to control the expenses when my workers are travelling or attending to the company’s customers”.

Hello, please, and thanks are not necessary, but I prefer to be polite, even with machines 🙂

If you follow the steps detailed previously, you will get a functional app ready in just a few minutes.

Conclusion

These are some examples for you to choose from. Select one, practice, and create your own Power Apps with Copilot.
